The Voodoo Festival in Benin, often known as the Fête du Vodoun or Vodoun Festival, is a vibrant and deeply spiritual celebration that takes place annually in various towns and cities throughout the country. The festival is a manifestation of the living traditions, beliefs, and practices of Vodoun, which is often misunderstood and misrepresented but remains an integral part of the country's heritage. The Voodoo Festival is a fascinating, immersive experience that allows visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the country's rich cultural and religious heritage. It's a celebration that showcases the unique fusion of spirituality, tradition, and community that characterizes Voodoo in Benin and Togo.

Itinerary

7 Jan - Day 1

Arrival at Cotonou airport and transfer to the hotel for check-in.

8 Jan - Day 2

Today, we embark on an exciting journey to the heart of Voodoo culture. Our first destination is Allada, a captivating town located approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes away from Cotonou. The Voodoo festival at Allada typically commences around 11 AM in front of the grand palace, setting the stage for an enchanting experience. In the afternoon, we'll return to Ouidah, where you have the option to attend other mesmerizing Voodoo events, including a visit to the mystical python temple. Later, we will explore the evocative Door of No Return, a poignant reminder of the transatlantic slave trade.

We will stay overnight in the vibrant city of Cotonou.

9 Jan - Day 3

Today is another opportunity to immerse ourselves in the rich traditions of Voodoo. We'll attend the Voodoo festival in Ouidah, where we'll have the privilege of witnessing the captivating Egungun masks dance at Place Chacha.

We will spend the night in Cotonou.

10 Jan - Day 4

On this day, we will venture to Porto Novo, an old Portuguese town with a unique charm. Our first stop will be the old mosque, a splendid example of Afro-Brazilian architecture. We will savor a delicious lunch at the Songhai Centre, renowned for its commitment to organic farming. Our journey continues as we return to Abomey-Calavi, where we will embark on a captivating canoe ride to explore Ganvie, the largest stilt village on Lake Nokoue. We will spend the night in the picturesque Grand Popo, a serene coastal town.

11 Jan - Day 5

Our adventure continues as we attend the Voodoo festival in Possotome, offering us the chance to witness captivating performances by Voodoo adepts adorned in colorful attire. In the afternoon, a special Zangbetor ceremony could be arranged for the group at Akodeha Amedemahoue, providing a unique cultural experience. In the evening, we will cross the land border into Togo and spend the night in Lome.

12 Jan - Day 6

Today, we will explore the vibrant city of Lome, taking in its unique sights and sounds. We will visit the Fetish market, the grand Marché of Lome, the International Arts Museum, and the historic Place of Independence.

We will stay overnight in Lome, soaking in the local culture.

13 Jan - Day 7

Another beautiful day to explore Togo

14 Jan - Day 8

As our unforgettable Voodoo Festival journey comes to an end, we will arrange for your transfer to the airport in Lome.
